Nabumetone (Relafen) NSAIDs

INDICATION

A medication which fits into the class of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents used for the treatment of osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

SIDE EFFECTS

Diarrhoea, upset stomach, peptic ulcers, abdominal pain, constipation, flatulence (passing gas), nausea, occult blood in stools (blood you cannot see), dry mouth, gastritis, vomiting, dizziness, headache, increased sweating, insomnia, nervousness, itching, rash, photosensitivity, ringing in the ears, fatigue, and swelling.

INTERACTIONS and PRECAUTIONS

  1. NOT TO BE USED in patients with a history for allergic reactions to aspirin or other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents.
  2. Use cautiously in those with severe liver impairment.
  3. Safety in pregnancy or nursing mothers has not been established.
  4. Use with aspirin or alcohol may promote stomach ulcers or bleeding.

USUAL DOSE

Adults: oral, 1,000 mg a day in a single or divided dose; may be increased to 1,500-2,000 mg a day, in two divided doses, as needed and tolerated.

Paediatrics: safety not established.
