Ketoprofen

(BRITISH) UK Trade name products: (Alrheumat) (Orudis) (Oruvail) (AMERICAN) US Trade name products which contain ketoprofen include: (Orudis) (Orudis-E) (Orudis-Sr) (Rhodis) (Rhodis-E)

A new once-a-day dosing form of ketoprofen: (Oruvail)

INDICATION

A medication used to reduce pain, fever, and inflammation.

SIDE EFFECTS

Increased bleeding time, headache, dizziness, excitement, ringing in the ears, visual disturbances, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, abdominal pain, gas, ulcers, anorexia, mouth swelling, kidney disorders, rash, and increased liver enzymes.

INTERACTIONS and PRECAUTIONS

  1. Aspirin and probenecid can DECREASE the effects of Ketoprofen.
  2. Concurrent use with diuretics (frusemide, hydrochlorothiazide) can potentiate kidney failure.
  3. Anticoagulants (Warfarin), methotrexate (anti-cancer drug), and lithium can all have INCREASED effects.
  4. Use with ACE inhibitors (captopril, enalapril, lisinopril) may decrease there effect.
  5. Do not use in combination with other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories.
  6. Use with beta-blockers (propranolol, labetalol, metoprolol, carteolol) can result in their decreased antihypertensive effect.
  7. Use with cephalosporin class antibiotics could possibly result in increased bleeding.

USUAL DOSE

Adult and adolescent: oral, capsules, 50-75 mg three times a day with food; or as rectal suppository 100 mg twice a day; or as extended-release tablets, oral 200 mg once a day.

Paediatrics: dosage not established.
